Gilbert expects to ask voters to pay for police, fire training facility

Gilbert needs an estimated $84.6 million public safety training facility as the town preps for turnover among its police and firefighters, according to city leaders.

By 2020, just more than 20 percent of Gilbert’s police and firefighters will be eligible to retire. By 2025, that percentage shoots up to nearly 50 percent.

The training center would offer space for the town to train new police and fire recruits, instead of relying on academies hosted by neighboring cities.
