He was a U.S. Air Force pilot who eventually found his seat on the Eloy City Council.

Joe Nagy, who died Aug. 12 at 87, was a graduate from Drexel University and joined the Air Force Cadet pilot training program where he stayed active until 1963 before transitioning to active reserve duty and worked in electronics sales.

He moved to Eloy with his wife in 2006 and became mayor in 2012 and later was also elected to City Council in 2014.

“I don’t think his job was complete after he ran for council,” said Vice Mayor Micah Powell. “I think he thought that he could do more (on) council than as the mayor. We had a lot of things left; we weren’t done yet. He felt very strongly that whatever we were doing was for the best interest for the city of Eloy, not for us as individuals but for us as a community.”
