Since its inception, Maricopa has seen four mayors stand at the helm of the city. Each one of them brought different experiences and perspectives, each one of them handled city business differently, and each one of them tried to leave Maricopa a little better off for the next mayor to take that position.
PinalCentral met with all four mayors of Maricopa to talk about each of their terms.
Edward Farrell was the founding mayor and served from 2003-2004, Kelly Anderson served from 2004-2008, Anthony Smith served from 2008-2012 and Christian Price served from 2012 until now.
The mayors began by talking about how Maricopa first got started. In order to become incorporated, it required 51 percent of votes or two-thirds of signatures of registered voters within the proposed boundaries. Those who were spearheading the incorporation efforts, including Farrell, decided to collect signatures.
They then went above and beyond the minimum requirement. Farrell said within two weeks’ time, they got 91 percent of signatures.
