Peoria officials are working on modernizing the permitted land uses within Old Town to facilitate the revitalization of the area.

City Planner Randy Proch said the goal is to promote pedestrian activities and create economic niches within Old Town.

The planning and zoning commission unanimously recommended a city-initiated amendment to update the Old Town Mixed-Use District within the city’s zoning ordinance.

This zoning district is one of the Peoria’s implementation mechanisms to achieve the goals and policies set forth in the city’s Central Peoria Revitalization Plan and the Peoria General Plan.

The council will consider the amendment at a later date.
