“Frank Lloyd Wright designed that.”
Maybe you’ve said that while showing out-of-towners around the Valley. But if you said it at the Arizona Biltmore, you were wrong.
Nonetheless, the central Phoenix resort was intimately influenced by Wright, famed for his “organic architecture” that aimed to sculpt buildings to fit the natural environment. So we proudly number it among the 11 confirmed Wright sites in Arizona.
It’s a lot fewer than you’ll find in California or Wisconsin, where Wright spent most of his career, but it’s more than most states have, thanks to his choice of Scottsdale to build his winter home and studio, Taliesin West. His influence extends to many other buildings around town that pay homage to his style.
