East Valley rezoning case centers on medical marijuana

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The city of Mesa is considering a rezoning proposal to allow a medical marijuana dispensary locate at a commercial center on Baseline Road between Country Club Drive and Alma School Road.

The owners of the center at 535 West Baseline Road are asking Mesa to rezone the center light industrial so it can bring in a medical marijuana dispensary and other potential tenants. PD & Investments LLC wants the zoning changed from its commercial designation which precludes those tenants.

An Alpha Graphics and foot massage business are currently at the building which has multiple empty spaces.

The building owner says Kind Meds Inc. has shown interest in relocating to the Baseline building from another location in Mesa if the industrial zoning is approved, according to city documents.

The rezoning could also bring in other potential tenants including dental manufacturing and agricultural testing businesses.

Because of the vacancies and the current zoning, PD & Investments have also had the building for sale.

The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board will consider the zoning change at its meeting today.
