[COLUMN] Cindy McCain is wrong to blast critics of APS CEO Don Brandt as sneering ‘demagogues’

Cindy McCain mounts a stirring defense for APS CEO Don Brandt. He must be in more trouble than I thought

Don Brandt must be in more trouble than I thought.

No less than Cindy McCain has written a stirring defense of the man who runs Arizona Public Service, lauding him as “a strong, principled leader who cares deeply about our great state and the people in it.”

McCain, in an op-ed published over the weekend, laments Brandt’s treatment at the hands of “individuals who demagogue for the sole purpose of furthering their own personal objectives.”

People who she says are “clouding reasoned judgment and civil discourse.”

“Too often, these individuals are resorting to lies, name-calling and fear-mongering,” wrote McCain, who neglected to mention that the APS Foundation is one of the major donors to the McCain Institute for International Leadership at Arizona State University.
