Gilbert looks at parking in development code changes

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

Gilbert town officials are looking at parking as they update the East Valley suburb’s Land Development Code.

That includes design rules and standards for covered and canopy parking, how to handle shared parking at mixed-use developments and whether to have compact parking spaces as part of the development code.

Gilbert is updating its Land Development Code. The parking issues and questions came up at a Gilbert Town subcommittee meeting dedicated to the development code updates.

Councilors Bridgette Peterson, Jordan Ray and Eddie Cook serve on that subcommittee.

They also discussed encouraging larger parking spaces to accommodate families with larger cars.

Gilbert is seeing population, real estate development and business growth. A new mixed-use development is planned for restaurant-heavy Heritage District.

Progressive Insurance is landing a new training and claims center in Gilbert. Deloitte & Touche, Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch have also landed jobs in the East Valley suburb.
