Phoenix to deploy ‘giving meters’ to help homeless in downtown Phoenix

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The city of Phoenix is launching new ‘giving meters’ in downtown Phoenix that will accept cash and credit card donations to help the homeless.

The meters are transformed parking meters and will be placed in downtown Phoenix. The city and downtown area have seen increased numbers of homeless persons and panhandlers.

The giving meters are a joint effort between the city and Downtown Phoenix Partnership. Mayor Kate Gallego and city officials will debut the effort next week along with four artists commissions to decorate the giving meters.

Phoenix’s effort comes after the city of Scottsdale posted some signs telling residents and visitors they did not have to give money to panhandlers and could instead donate funds to charities and nonprofits who help the homeless.
