The city of Mesa is looking to improve the runways at Falcon Field Airport.

The Mesa City Council is scheduled to vote on a $1.26 million contract with Combs Construction Company for the construction of two new exit taxiways connecting to a runway at Falcon Field.

In July, the Mesa council voted to accept an Federal Aviation Administration grant that would cover 91 percent of the costs of the improvements.

The city also plans on applying for grant funding from the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Boeing has large operations adjacent to Falcon Field.

The Mesa council will vote on the taxiway contract at its August 26 meeting.
