[OPINION] Look who’s taking Kelli Ward to the woodshed

Opinion: Arizona GOP Chairwoman Kelli Ward’s mini-Trump routine may delight the hard right, but as her hometown newspaper has correctly figured out, it’s a turnoff to, well, everybody else.

State GOP Chairwoman Kelli Ward was taken to woodshed over the weekend and by a rather surprising critic.

Ward’s hometown newspaper, Lake Havasu’s conservative News-Herald, delivered a blistering (but accurate) critique of Ward’s first nine months leading the party.

“It seems that Arizona’s Republican leadership is determined to see the state turn blue in 2020,” began the newspaper’s Sunday editorial.

“It has been disappointing to watch the state GOP bumble along this past year, first with news about anemic fundraising numbers, and more recently with surprisingly tone-deaf statements that have only served to highlight divisions within the party and embolden Arizona Democrats,” it continued.

“If Republicans want to avoid that scenario, then they’ll have to do some soul-searching, starting with the party chairwoman.”
