Riverside, California and Phoenix top the list of U.S. cities where families with children are moving to, according to financial research firm MagnifyMoney.

MagnifyMoney looked at family migration patterns between 2016 and 2017.

Metro Phoenix was the second most popular spot for families to move to during that time frame with the Valley seeing a net inflow of 5,580 households with kids.

Only Riverside, California saw more net in-migration gaining 6,279 families, according to New York-based MagnifyMoney.

Phoenix and Riverside are both growth markets with lower costs of living than other big cities.

Tampa, Portland and Orlando round out the top five growth cities. Other cities gaining families include Modesto, California, Colorado Springs, Raleigh and Olympia, Washington.

New York City lost the most households with children shedding just under 25,000 families between 2016 and 2017. Los Angeles was second losing more than 14,750 households and Chicago dropped more than 10,500 families with children, according to the research.
