The Tempe City Council will vote later this week on moving forward with a potential new workforce housing development with a development firm that specializes in projects for artists and creative workers.

The Council will consider allowing city managers to forge a deal with Artspace Projects for new housing near Apache Boulevard and Dorsey Lane.

Minneapolis-based Artspace has developed lofts and residential spaces focused on affordability and artists in Mesa, Santa Cruz, California, Seattle, Portland, Chicago and other cities.

The Minnesota company is Tempe’s preferred bidder after the city put a request for proposals for bringing workforce housing to parcels on Lemon Street and South Dorsey Lane. The Tempe council will vote on moving forward at its Thursday meeting.
