Gilbert voters appear likely to have choices in next year’s Town Council election, although it’s still too early to know if the mayor will face challengers.
Those interested in running began notifying the town clerk in late August. So far, four have expressed interest in running for Town Council.
They include:
Scott Anderson, completing his first term on the council.
Tyler Hudgins, chair of Gilbert’s Redevelopment Commission.
Busola Obayomi, who launched a run for a council seat in 2018 but dropped out after he did not get enough signatures in time to make the ballot.
Kathy Tilque, CEO and president of the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce.
Along with Anderson’s seat, Councilman Jared Taylor’s seat also is up for grabs. Taylor has said he will not seek a second term.
Mayor Jenn Daniels said she plans to run again for mayor. So far, no one has stepped forward to run against Daniels, who was appointed to the post from her position as councilwoman when John Lewis resigned in 2016. Daniels was elected as mayor a month later.
Residents have until Jan. 2 to file statements of interest in running for office with the town clerk.
