U.S. Rep. David Schweikert’s vote Wednesday to effectively rebuke President Donald Trump for ceding northern Syria to Turkey was a rare break from the White House and his conservative Freedom Caucus colleagues.
Schweikert, a five-term Arizona Republican, joined most in the House GOP and nearly every House Democrat to pass a resolution 354-60 opposing the decision to end U.S. efforts to prevent Turkish military operations against Kurdish forces in Syria.
The vote put Schweikert in the same column as all five of Arizona’s House Democrats and opposite the state’s three other House Republicans.
