It is going to cost Lyft and Uber riders more to get rides to and from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The Phoenix City Council voted 7-2 Wednesday to increase the fees ride share customers pay at the busy airport.
Starting next year, Uber and Lyft riders will pay a $4 fee to get dropped off or picked up at Sky Harbor.
Right now, ride share customer just pay a $2.66 fee to get picked up at the airport. They don’t pay to get dropped off for flights right now.
That will change next year, and the fees will go up to $5.00 per ride by 2024 and then will be increased based on inflation.
Phoenix officials said Lyft and Uber drivers now make up 70 percent of the traffic at Sky Harbor up from 9.3 percent of in 2016.
Phoenix councilors Sal DiCiccio and Jim Waring were two no votes against the higher fees. The ride share companies also opposed the higher fees.
The Phoenix City Council did vote for a $2.80 fee for ride share customers who get dropped or picked up at the PHX Sky Train people mover located at 44th and Washington streets.
