The Chandler City Council has approved new rules for electric scooters. The rules allow scooters on bike lanes and sidewalks on busy streets and in the downtown area. Scooters are also allowed on residential streets where there are no bike lanes.

The rules also require scooters to have lights on at night and prohibits their use while under the influence of alcohol.

Chandler spokesperson Stephanie Romero said the City Council still need to finalize measures related to the scooter rules including outlining the parameters for scooters companies wanting to operate in the East Valley city.
