With the end of term for many of Maricopa’s current city council members looming, several seats are up for grabs including the mayoral position.
Currently up for re-election on city council are Nancy Smith and Julia Gusse. Also up for grabs is the seat of Marvin Brown, who is retiring after a long career in government. Mayor Christian Price is also running for a re-election, though he is currently unopposed.
Among the candidates for city council is Andre LaFond, a real estate agent and Army veteran living in Maricopa. He said he feels strongly about the city, and looks to a brighter future for the growing community.
“One of the big things I’m looking to bring (to council) is my love and passion for Maricopa,” LaFond said. “Selfishly, I want to make sure that Maricopa is continuing to go in the direction of positive growth, both economically, residential and culturally, as this is where I’m bringing up my family. With that, I want to ensure that everyone has a good opportunity in Maricopa.”
