CASA GRANDE — Gov. Doug Ducey’s proposed budget shocked Pinal County officials with the proposal to close a unit of the state prison in Florence.
Matthew Gress, director of the governor’s Strategic Planning and Budgeting Office, was in Casa Grande Tuesday to give residents a more in-depth look at the budget.
Ducey announced the closure of the Arizona State Prison Complex-Florence in his State of the State address last month. The prison is one of the oldest facilities in the state, having been built in 1909. The Governor’s Office estimates that closing the prison will save the state $275 million.
