Arizona lost construction jobs not as severe as California, New York other states

Arizona lost 3,600 construction jobs in April with COVID-19 impacting the economy.

But the loss of construction jobs was more severe in New York, California and other states, according to the Associated General Contractors.

Arizona saw a 2.1 percent decline, according to AGC.

Arizona construction sites were able to stay open during COVID related closures.

Some other states shutdown construction sites as part of their pandemic responses. A number of states had much steeper April construction job losses.

New York lost 166,200 construction jobs, a 40.8 percent drop).

California lost 132,100 construction jobs, a 15 percent loss from March.
Washington state, which shutdown construction sites, lost 81,000 jobs, a 35.4 percent drop from March.

Pennsylvania lost 100,900 construction jobs, a 38.9 percent drop.

South Dakota, which did not shut down during COVID, added 200 jobs between March and April.
