When the COVID-19 pandemic started Joe Blackbourn and Tom Coughlin started following commercial real estate industry best practices for the office parks and properties they own in metro Phoenix.

Coughlin said that included following COVID guidelines set out by national groups such as the Urban Land Institute, Institute of Real Estate Management, and NAIOP.

But the pair wanted to take their health safety efforts to next level to give tenants and their workers even more reassurances their workplaces were as clean and safe as possible.

So, Blackbourn and Coughlin have turned to HealthyVerify Certification to enhance their health safety best practices at the Deer Valley Office Park in northwest Phoenix. The office park totals 175,000 square feet and is 98 percent leased.

HealthyVerify is the country’s only medically based, scientific and professional certification company helping minimize the rise of COVID-19. HealthyVerify has helped and certified a range of clients’ health safety efforts.

Blackbourn and Coughlin are both executives with Everest Commercial Services, Everest Holdings’ property management affiliate.  Blackbourn and Coughlin are HealthyVerify’s first commercial real estate landlord clients.

“We know and trust the leadership of HealthyVerify to help us enhance, develop, implement, and certify our efforts and best practices to help keep our tenants, their employees as well as our employees safe,” Blackbourn said.

Scottsdale-based HealthyVerify has helped the Deer Valley Office Park install hand-waving automatic doors, nanoseptic (self-cleaning UV) elevator buttons, touchless faucets, soap dispensers and towel dispensers and foot pedals to open doors. Hand sanitizer stations have also been placed in common areas and elevator lobbies.

“We saw that it could be an invaluable certification,” Blackbourn said. “Ultimately it makes sure our tenants know health and safety are of the utmost importance to us and that we care about their employees.

Coughlin and Blackbourn said they plan to use HealthyVerify at other commercial real estate properties they own and manage.

“Being able to lead by example and having HealthyVerify will give us additional backbone to say we know what the best practices are,” Coughlin said.

HealthyVerify (HVC) has partnered with infectious disease experts from the Barrow Neurological Institute and researchers at Arizona State University to help clients go above and beyond Centers for Disease Control safeguards when it comes to protecting against COVID-19.

HVC’s clients include Jewish Family and Children’s Services, Haydon Building Corp., the Hawaii Community Foundation, City of Goodyear, Phoenix Rising FC, and the Avondale Elementary School District among many others.
