Arizona Attorney General’s Office: Major lab lied about wait times for COVID-19 test results

The Arizona attorney general’s office says Sonora Quest Laboratories frequently took nine days or more to deliver test results — far longer than consumers were promised.

The state attorney general is accusing a major testing laboratory of lying to consumers about how quickly they will get their virus test results.

It frequently took nine days — and sometimes more — for Sonora Quest Laboratories to process COVID-19 tests, according to a letter from Joshua Weiss, an assistant attorney general, to the lawyer for the firm.

That’s longer than consumers were being promised, Weiss said. And that, he said, violates the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act.

Weiss also said that Sonora Quest, which processes most of the state’s tests, “has failed to deliver on several promises for cleaning out its testing backlog.”
