Last night in an unanimous vote, the City of Buckeye Planning Commission unanimously approved an amendment to their Zoning Ordinance allowing for RV Garage’s to be constructed under limited circumstances. The amendment was initiated by Rose Law Group on behalf of Lennar Homes, the country’s largest homebuilder. Even prior to Covid, Lennar was seeing great demand for new homes with RV garages.
The proposed text amendment changes the code to allow for greater diversity in parking surface area design, limits the maximum garage door width to no more than 51% of the building façade, limits the number of homes in a subdivision that may include an RV garage to no more than 45%, requires façade variation with setbacks on the front plane of the home reducing the visual appearance of garage dominance, and is limited to a minimum lot width of 68 feet.
RV garages are already allowed (with less restrictive standards) in the cities of Surprise, Maricopa, Peoria and Phoenix. The Planning Commission recommendation is forwarded to the full City Council for consideration.
