The Scottsdale City Council has approved the rezoning a shopping center property near Granite Reef and McDonald Roads. The rezoning will allow for redevelopment of the property into a gymnastics gym.
The zoning change was approved at the council’s Oct. 20 meeting.
The property is currently home to the Mardi Gras Costume Shop. The rezoning changes the property’s zoning from a regional shopping center to a neighborhood commercial. That allows for a wider variety of uses at the 40,000-square-foot Scottsdale center.
Chad Klock and Robin Schaffers want to buy the property for a health and fitness studio focused on gymnastics training.
The commercial property was originally designed for a bank. The costume rental store has been located there since the 1990s.
The parcel is currently owned by the Candace and Donald Matteson Revocable Trust, according to city documents.
