Peoria sees jump in pool construction permits

As Peoria grows its population, the number of pool permits the city hands out continues to rise.

The city approved approximately 847 pool construction permits during 2020, a massive increase from the 651 permits handed out during 2019. Peoria saw just 682 pool permits in 2017 and 699 in 2018.

According to Robert Goodhue, deputy director of development for the Peoria Development and Engineering Department, the pool industry isn’t the only one booming in the West Valley.

“Residential permits have been increasing for the last several years, Peoria is a growing city,” he said. “As the city grows, so does the existing inventory of occupied properties, which leads to increased overall construction. Solar permits have also increased over the years.”

But Mr. Goodhue recognizes the unprecedented nature of events in 2020 likely led to that sharp jump in pool permits last year, in addition to the new residents flocking to the Valley.
