The city of Goodyear announced that Mayor Georgia Lord, 83, died at her home on Sunday afternoon after a recent fall.

The city said Lord’s health steadily declined after she recently fell and broke her hip. She died peacefully in her home with her family by her side, according to the city.

Lord first moved to the city with her husband, retired Air Force Col. Ronald Lord, in 1997, after living in many locations as a military spouse across the U.S. and Europe, the far East and stateside at the Pentagon.
