O’Halleran says he will run in less-favorable District 2

Despite losing some of his constituency in the new congressional district maps — including much of Casa Grande and Eloy — current District 1 U.S. Rep. Tom O’Halleran released a statement on Thursday that he plans to run again next year.

“Let me be clear,” O’Halleran said. “I want to continue to represent you and your family. Even though our district is changing, the heart of rural Arizona remains intact in AZ-02.”

O’Halleran, D-Sedona, cited lowering health care and drug costs, honoring veterans, investing in infrastructure and protecting the sovereignty of tribal communities as key issues he would fight for now and in the future. O’Halleran also vowed to “stand up to attacks on our very democracy” and assured current district residents who will not be part of the new district that his office was still assist them in any way possible.
