Goodyear leaders will rename the city’s library to honor the late Mayor Georgia Lord and host a celebration of life on Jan. 21 for the two-term mayor who passed away last month.
The event to honor Lord will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Goodyear Civic Square Park, in front of the future Goodyear City Hall at the northwest corner of McDowell Road and 150th Drive.
Masks will not be required since the gathering will be outside, a city spokesperson said.
Residents are encouraged to attend, with parking available at the park.
The event to honor Lord is still in the planning stages but is expected to feature several speakers, including family members and others who were close to the mayor.
In addition, the two-story city library building under construction at Civic Square will be named the Georgia T. Lord Library. The Goodyear Branch Library, operated by the Maricopa County Library District, at the current municipal complex eventually will move into the new building.
