CASA GRANDE — For Nancy and Tony Smith, the past 20 years in Maricopa have been an unexpected and incredible opportunity.
Nancy is Maricopa’s current mayor; Tony is the president and CEO of Pinal Partnership.
“We call Maricopa the city of firsts,” said Nancy. “It’s not just (about) the first time Maricopa (became) a city, it’s also a city of firsts for people.”
“It’s developed into a once-in-a-lifetime place to live and we love it,” she continued.
Nancy was appointed to the role of mayor last year by her fellow city councilmembers. She is the first woman to fill the role in Maricopa’s two-decade history as a city.
Her husband Tony knows what it’s like to fill the responsibilities she has, having served as mayor of Maricopa for two years himself. He’s remained heavily involved in Pinal County, having served on the Pinal County Board of Supervisors from 2013-2020.
