Members of the Queen Creek Town Council recently broke ground on three roadway connectors in the downtown core.
When the project is completed, Aldecoa Drive and Munoz Street will both connect from Ellsworth Road to Ellsworth Loop, and Summers Place will connect from Aldecoa to Munoz.
“These connectors are an essential step in implementing the 2017 council-approved Town Center plan with a vision to create a vibrant and walkable district in the heart of our Town Center that complements the heritage of the community and provides a wide range of venues,” Queen Creek Mayor-elect Julia Wheatley said at the Thursday, Jan. 5 groundbreaking ceremony. “As a council, we know the importance of investing in infrastructure to spur quality development that will not only provide for more options for our residents when it comes to dining and shopping, but also more revenue to support programs like public safety Parks and recreation.”
The Town Center Plan Update was approved in 2017, followed by the creation of a new Downtown Core zoning district in 2018.
The new roadways, being constructed by Nesbitt, will include one lane in each direction with on-street parking, off-street bicycle paths and walkways, crosswalks, and landscaping. It will also include utility work including water, sewer, storm water and drainage improvements.
