Maricopa County update from Supervisor and Rose Law Group partner Thomas Galvin

Message from Supervisor Thomas Galvin

Lake Pleasant Press Release

Hello Neighbors:

Now that summer is here, it’s vitally important to stay safe while we enjoy the outdoors. However, last year, there were too many deaths on the County’s lakes and trails that were preventable.

That is why, this year, I am raising awareness reminding folks to wear life vests when on boats and to make sure they are hydrated and safe when on our beautiful trails. As part of my message, I hosted a press conference, just before Memorial Day, in conjunction with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department, and Arizona Game & Fish Department.

The Lakes & Trails Safety event was to amplify the message that life vests are crucial if you’re enjoying the County’s beautiful lakes. If you go hiking, ensure you are hydrated, have plenty of water, and bring a buddy with you. If you are hiking alone, please alert someone in advance and let them know where you are going.

Also, I have been working hard to honor my #1 priority…protecting the Maricopa County taxpayer. My colleagues and I have approved a preliminary budget that, once again, cuts property tax rates while maintaining the County’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations and providing essential services.

Lake Pleasant: Lakes & Trails Safety Event with First Responders

Last year, there were 11 drownings on Maricopa County’s lakes and the Sheriff’s Office conducted 105 search and rescue operations. I want to see those numbers go down this year! Therefore, I hosted a press conference at Lake Pleasant to raise awareness about the importance of being safe on our lakes and trails.

Mesa: Amazon Storage Facility Creating Up to 1,300 Jobs

I was honored to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Amazon’s Storage & Distribution Center (SDC) in Mesa. The site is more than 1.2 million square feet and is the largest of its kind in the nation.

This is the first SDC in the East Valley and allows for third-party sellers to ensure their product is in stock. In Arizona, Amazon has 17 fulfillment and sortation centers, 13 delivery stations, and more than 33,000 full-and part-time employees. This facility, KRB9, is expected to have 800-1300 employees.

St. Vincent de Paul: Caring for the Homeless

Maricopa County is doing what it can to alleviate the homeless problem in our communities. There are several organizations doing great work and one of them is St Vincent de Paul. I admire the dedication and achievements of everyone at St Vincent de Paul. I asked them to share how we can help them in their great mission, and this is what they had to say.

“A year-round need, but especially in the summer months, St Vincent de Paul is currently asking for donations of men’s jeans, sneakers, and cases of bottled water. All three of these much-needed items will help save our neighbors experiencing homelessness and protect them from the harsh Arizona summers. Jeans are one of the most durable and valuable clothing items to our guests. Not only do they protect the skin from harmful sun exposure, but also from the wild Arizona critters. If you can share an old, but wearable pair of jeans or sneakers, please think of St. Vincent de Paul.”
