Chandler has evolved into a regional hub for technology manufacturing over the past two decades as its population ballooned by nearly 60%, all while city officials kept pace with growth by building out its infrastructure at a remarkable rate.
Future infrastructure upgrades may ride on the continuation of Proposition 400, a countywide voter-approved initiative that would help facilitate between $1.2 billion and $1.6 billion worth of transportation projects for the city over the next 25 years.
The ballot measure was first approved by voters in 1985 and then extended for another 20 years in 2004. The half-cent sales tax has generated tens of billions of dollars for the region while also helping to unlock billions more in federal grants that wouldn’t otherwise be available.
