SAN TAN VALLEY — The town of Queen Creek and the city of Chandler both have announced their support of San Tan Valley becoming a city, the committee working for incorporation announced.

“Queen Creek has always been in support for reasons of self-determination and local control,” Mayor Julia Wheatley said. “San Tan Valley has the avenue to take tax revenues and direct them to what fits their community. We look forward to having a great partnership because we share the same traffic and congestion concerns.”

Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke said, “On behalf of the city of Chandler I would like to express support for a public vote on the incorporation of San Tan Valley. The ability for residents to determine the governance of their communities is the cornerstone of local control.”

Incorporation committee members have said they hope to bring the question to a vote in a year.
