Casa Grande approves Cactus Mine expansion

CASA GRANDE — Expansion of the Cactus Mine and an $8 million contract for expanded sewer infrastructure have been approved following the final Casa Grande council meeting for 2023.

With Christmas and the New Year just around the corner, Monday’s meeting took on a festive feel with council benches festooned in seasonal decorations. Some members of the public dressed in colorful costumes and mayor Craig McFarland donned a Christmas themed shirt.

Council members voted unanimously to approve the Arizona Sonoran Copper Company’s request to expand the site of their mining operations at the former Sacaton Mine site, which is now known as the Cactus Mine.
