Mesa approves new cannabis ordinance

By Your Valley

The Mesa City Council approved an ordinance at the Feb. 5 meeting that will allow existing medical marijuana dispensaries to be located closer to each other.

The amendment would reduce the minimum distance requirement that marijuana dispensaries would be located from each other from 5,280 feet to 1,000 feet.

This amendment only applies to the 12 existing dispensaries in the city. A dispensary must be located near or relocate to a large industrial area to be eligible. The amendment was introduced as early as May 2023. The ordinance was set for a vote during the council’s Aug. 21 meeting, but the council postponed the vote in order to add more information to the ordinance.
