Phoenix Country Day School’s application for a performance arts center has been recommended for approval by the Paradise Valley Planning Commission.
A meeting for residents was held Feb. 8 on the property, which was well-attended by 30 or 40 people from Phoenix and a few from Paradise Valley, according to Commissioner Timothy Dickman.
“I thought the applicant did a really nice job,” Dickman said. “There wasn’t a formal presentation, it was kind of an open house where there was display boards around what was being done.”
He went to hear if there was any opposition to the project. He said all were in support but voiced concerns about parking along one street in Phoenix, mostly related to swim meets and unrelated to this.
Jordan Rose on behalf of the applicant added that neighbors thought there would be public open concerts but that’s not the school’s intention. The performance arts center just allows the same activity to occur in a different building, she said.
Commissioner William Nassikas thanked the applicant for the amount of time put into presentations at meetings and personal tours. He thinks the performance arts center is a positive addition and nice-looking facility that will continue to add to the prestige and reputation of the school.
