FLORENCE — With economic development plums landing in other western and central Pinal cities but not in Florence, county officials and staff were asked why industries are not coming here and if the county considers this to be “more of a bedroom community” at a forum on Feb. 27.
James Smith, Pinal Economic and Workforce Development director, said no. Pinal recently joined the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, which should provide different options for economic development, and “Florence will have the opportunity to respond to those” and be considered, Smith said.
Smith and several other top Pinal officials and staff participated in a “state of the county” forum at Anthem Parkside Community Center, hosted by Supervisor Jeffrey McClure, R-Eagle Crest Ranch.
