A statement from Alicia Nuńez to the community:
As the first Chicana to lead Chicanos Por La Causa, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for this opportunity to make a difference.
But more than anything, I am excited for what this new chapter means for our organization.
As I step into this position, my priorities are further earning your trust, enhancing our organization’s transparency, and strengthening relationships and collaboration with our community.
We are a group of people united, working together to empower the lives around us. In our comunidad.
We give people the tools and knowledge to build a stable future for themselves and their families.
We encourage people to be active citizens, leaders, and learners.
We end cycles of generational struggle.
We amplify voices.
We listen. And we act.
We are fighting for systemic change in our community to ensure everyone has a seat at the table. Because we all have the ingredients—we just don’t all have the recipe.
Taking on this role is about so much more than me.
Growing up, I saw how the powerful women in my life did not get credit for everything they did. My story is one example of the strength, resilience, and courage of all women.
Chicanas everywhere are breaking barriers and changing the status quo.
We need to celebrate us. To honor the Chicanas who have paved the way for us.
And to inspire future generations, who will continue overcoming obstacles and shattering expectations.
Con cariño,
