As of April 1, six candidates have filed statements of interest with the city to run for council.
Those names include current city council member Laura Kaino (re-election) and newcomers Angie Amarillas, Benita Beckles, Tamara Floyd, Teri Roberts and Trey Terry.
Minority candidates include one Hispanic woman, and two Black women.
According to 2023 U.S. Census Bureau reports, Goodyear has a 64% white population, 32% Hispanic population and 6% Black population. The city council currently consists of three white men and four white women.
Councilmembers Sheri Lauritano, Laura Kaino and Bill Stipp all have terms expiring.
