Residents threaten referendum over new Axon campus

The day after the Scottsdale City Council approved a rezoning to clear the way for a controversial new Axon world headquarters campus, former City Councilmember Bob Littlefield got the ball rolling on a referendum.

Littlefield filed a statement of organization for a new political action committee called Taxpayers Against Awful Apartment Zoning Exemptions, with the sole purpose of collecting enough signatures to get the rezoning put on the ballot next year.

“We’re going to refer this thing, just like South Bridge,” Littlefield said.

It’s not yet clear how many signatures will be needed to get the item on the ballot because Mayor David Ortega has yet to sign the ordinance rezoning the land, according to Scottsdale City Clerk Ben Lane.
