Gilbert will explore selling two parcels of land it owns near Crossroads Park.
The two parcels, which are adjacent to one another, are immediately east of Greenfield Road and north of Ray Road.
The northern parcel, approximately 18.9 acres, is zoned for Public Facilities Institutional, while the southern parcel, approximately 5.3 acres, is zoned for Community Commercial, Assistant Town Manager Mary Goodman said.
Gilbert Town Council directed staff at council’s retreat last month to proceed with a discovery process, which includes appraising the land and evaluating access issues, to determine the feasibility and potential value of selling the parcels.
If approved, they could be sold either through an invitation for bid or a public auction.
Goodman said the town has received various inquiries about the parcels in previous years, but access to them is challenging. They have been identified for need in neither the town’s space needs assessment nor the town’s parks master plan.
