Goodyear City Council took another step toward improving Bullard Wash Trail during its meeting on Dec. 9, approving an intergovernmental agreement with the Flood Control District of Maricopa County to acquire land related to the trail’s expansion.
The agreement is about 5.8 acres of land bound by McDowell Road to the north and Interstate 10 to the south, and it was owned by the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, a flood protection district, which manages drainage issues within the county’s boundaries. The property includes the wash — which is a dry creek bed or shallow channel that carries water during rainfall — and adjacent land for trail construction.
Last year, 1.2 million people visited the city’s parks and used its trails, said David Seid, deputy director of the parks and recreation department. The Bullard Wash Trail expansion, he added, is directly tied to the city’s strategic plan, and was specifically identified as a priority in the 2023 Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
