Gilbert panel shoots down apartment complex plan

The Gilbert Planning Commission last week turned thumbs down on a proposed plan to build a 335-unit residential complex near Higley and Warner roads.

The commission went along with the town staff’s recommendation to deny approval of Modera Gabriella Pointe, a 14.99-acre parcel on the northeast corner of Higley Road and Elona Drive, near the Loop 202 San Tan Freeway.

Town senior planner Keith Newman reiterated what he said in an earlier planning study session on the request: Approving it would create the second-highest concentration of multifamily units within a half-mile radius at 1,326 apartments.
