Mayor Jon Thompson

Electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid Motors announced that it had reached an agreement for the acquisition of the Nikola Corporation Phoenix and Coolidge facilities after Nikola filed for bankruptcy in February. This acquisition only encompasses the facilities themselves and not any other part of Nikola or its technology.
Many among the Coolidge leadership found out about this acquisition the way most people did: from the Lucid Motors press release. Sometime between the press release and last week’s State of the City presentation by Mayor Jon Thompson, Lucid had addressed Coolidge directly in a letter, which Thompson read near the end of the presentation.
“We thank you for the warm welcome from the City of Coolidge, Mayor Thompson and council, and the community residents. We are excited to expand our operations in the city and rehire over 300 former Nikola employees affected by the bankruptcy. We intend to utilize the facility to support our power train and logistics operations to accommodate our growth in the state,” the letter, by Lucid Motors Senior Manager Mike Cruz, said.
