City Councilmember Vincent Manfredi shared some strong words about SB 1229, commonly referred to as the AZ Starter Home Act, at last week’s city council meeting.
The Arizona Senate bill, is designed to balance the power given to municipalities to interfere with a home buyer’s choice of features, amenities, and design. From restrictions on minimum lot sizes, square footage, and setbacks to removing existing provisions letting municipalities impose design and aesthetic standards.
Theoretically, this would streamline the development process and address the housing crisis in Arizona, but Manfredi sees it in a completely different way.
