The Scottsdale City Council is putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to a possible legal battle over security technology maker Axon’s plan to build 1,895 apartments and condos in north Scottsdale as part of its plan to build a new world headquarters – just not as much money as expected.
The council voted 5-2 during its May 6 meeting to appropriate $100,000 to have an outside attorney assesses the city’s legal standing in a possible lawsuit against legislation that eliminates residents’ rights to hold a referendum on allowing offending apartments.
That’s half of what the city council had originally set aside to pay Dray, who charges $875 an hour, to review the cases for the city,
Mayor Lisa Borowsky moved to cap the city’s expense at $100,000.
“I think that would make me feel a lot more comfortable to get this solid legal opinion because I know what that takes to give a legal opinion. It probably won’t take $100,000.”
