CG planning panel raises concerns about proposed hotel

CASA GRANDE — The city Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday denied a request for a 124-room, four-story extended stay hotel on East Florence Boulevard.

The request by applicant Casa Grande Hospitality LLC to build Premier Suites on approximately 2.2 acres at Florence Boulevard and Camino Del Norte, just west of Interstate 10, was denied via a 4-3 vote on the grounds that it did not fit with the existing Casa Grande Mercado planned area development. Another request for a major site plan at the PAD was also vetoed by a 4-3 vote.

City Planner Jim Gagliardi told commissioners that the proposed hotel design was contrary to a Southwest architectural 1990s theme that existed in the surrounding area.
