Mesa ponders partial Center Street revamp

Travel lane removal, enhanced bike lanes and wider sidewalks are envisioned for a half mile stretch of Center Street from City Hall to the Mesa Convention Center to help bring more foot traffic to the downtown.

Council at the Sept. 4 study session gave the nod to go into the design process on the roadway between University Drive and Main Street, which will provide more detail, involve public outreach and refine the cost estimate.

“What we’re looking for on Center Street is we want to enhance travel for people that are walking to and from downtown, bicycling to and from downtown, and also within downtown,” Erik Guderian, interim Transportation Department director said.
