Copper Sky is expanding before our eyes.
The new field house for indoor sports has been under construction just north of the city’s multigenerational complex for a few weeks now. Tomorrow, Maricopa City Council will not only get to preview the final result but also name the new building.
New renderings posted on the city’s website show a lighter, brighter addition rising just north of the multigenerational complex and regional park. The expanded facility pairs the existing copper and orange structure, the former police substation, with a much larger building made from concrete and cream colored engineered metal. The design maintains Copper Sky’s familiar palette while giving the new field house a more modern tone.
Inside, the field house will include four full-size basketball courts, six indoor volleyball courts and a dozen pickleball courts. Plans also call for rentable flex space and a tournament lobby designed to draw regional sports events. The city projects an opening in July.
