Proposed housing, hotel clear hurdles in Maricopa

Maricopa’s Planning & Zoning Commission advanced a proposal that could move forward construction of a new hotel along Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

The commission unanimously recommended approval of a planned area development request by Scottsdale-based VESPRO to modify design standards on 2⅓ acres, increasing the allowable building height from 35 to 60 feet. The proposed TownePlace Suites by Marriott hotel, however, is planned at four stories, or 42 feet.
